English (Parliamentary) Debates:
The Inter House Debates were held in January 2010. These were organized by the
English Department. Parliamentary Debates were introduced for the first time
this year at
the Middle Section. These Debates were part of the Inter House competitions held
over 6
sessions of Debates. Papworth House emerged as the Champion House. Anum Sulaiman
of Napier House was the Best Speaker.
School Drama
The Middle Section put up the Canterbury Tales in February 2010. The production
was
based on an adaptation which attempted to modernize Chaucer to suit the taste
and style
of our young actors and audience.
The production had two dance numbers that kept the audience involved, and the
freedom
to interpret Chaucer’s characters by depicting them in a modern context allowed
the
students a chance to understand and relate to these characters in a unique way.
There was also an Urdu component which was enjoyed by many as Chaucer in local
flavour came through as more amusing and exciting than we had anticipated. The
twists
at the end of each tale kept the audience entertained till the very end.
World Mathematics Day
World Maths Day was observed on Tuesday, 2nd March 2010 during an extended
assembly. It was a 35 minute House contest with 3 members House teams
participating. It
consisted of 4 rounds at the end of which results were announced. The Winning
House
was Napier and runner up was Papworth.
History and Geography Project Day
This school event was held on 10th March, 2010 on the School premises. Every
student of
VII, VIII and IX took active part in preparing for this event under the guidance
of their
History/Geography teachers. The themes of the projects for each level revolved
around
the curriculum of the Second Term. Class IX presented “Environment of Pakistan”,
Class
VIII focused on the “World Wars” and the theme of Class VII was “Environmental
Pollution and Conservation”. Students worked in groups to produce models, charts
and
other display materials related to their research topics. Presentations had
already been
held in class and the work assessed. On the day itself, the students displayed
great
enthusiasm in displaying and presenting their work to parents and other
visitors.
The event contributed to the development of multiple skills such as team work
communication, enquiry and investigation and organization. It also demonstrated
our
students creativity and critical thinking skills.
Urdu Debates
Urdu Debates were held in the Second Term on 29th March 2010. It was an Inter
House
Competition. The topic for a debate was “all play being bad for a person”. We
had with
us the present and previous Urdu HODs of from the College Section They had
consented
to be the judges.
Napier House won and Hasan Babar Mateen from VIII-L was the Best Speaker.

“The Future
of Digital Books” followed by a Question Parade and presentations on media

Art Exhibition Day
The Middle Section had an Art Day, Expressions 2010, on Tuesday 13th April 2010.
This
was organized by the Art Department.
The event was divided into four areas.
Inter School Art Competition: For the first time in the History of the
Middle Section an
Inter School Art Competition was held. Students from 13 schools participated in
the
competition. Each School was represented by three students, one from each class
level.
As the host School our students participated but did not compete. This
competition was
judged by eminent artists.
Workshop for Art Teachers: Art teachers who accompanied students from
participating
schools were kept busy at a workshop facilitated by Mrs. Naiza Khan. They
discussed
various techniques and the use of various resources to enhance the teaching of
Art in
School.
Art Display:The main display in the Music Hall was a collage of our students
assignment work. One piece of Art work from every student was displayed. The
display
also included oil paintings done by the Canvas Club students and sketches and
painting of
the work done by the Outdoor Art Club students on their excursions.
Inter House Art Competition: While the Inter School Competition took place
our
children also participated in an Inter House Art Competition. Four students from
each
House took part and four interesting paintings emerged. Streeton emerged as the
winning
team.
The prize distribution ceremony was held towards the end of the morning. Mrs.
Marjorie
Hussain was the Chief Guest. Eminent artists were also present and so were the
teachers
and students of the different schools. Shields were given out to the three
winners from
each level.
