Field Trip

25 Feb 2014

A group of Class IX students visited the Karachi University Botanical Garden where they were shown plants endemic to Pakistan, tropical and medical plants sections, and endangered plant species of palms, cacti and aquatic plants. The students were informed that most plants are threatened since they exist only in Pakistan and there is hardly any effort made for their conservation. One of the species vanishing is the dwarf palm, which is extensively used for making handmade goods, baskets and mats.

The garden has a diverse range of plants and trees and the children saw that it is watered with the help of an energy-effective waste water treatment plan.
It was an informative trip and gave our children an opportunity to learn how Botanical Gardens can play a role in conservation and spreading awareness.
