Thursday Assembly: The Benefits of Exercise

            The students of VS kept the spirit of Sports Day alive by informing their audience of parents, teachers and students about the advantages of exercise. In these modern times, obesity among children between the ages of 6 and 19 has reached an all-time high. This can lead to heart  diseases and diabetes.  The best way to combat this is to get active. Exercise strengthens bones, the heart and the lungs. It builds stamina and increases one’s ability to play, walk, jog or run without getting tired. Exercise is also good for the mind. It releases chemicals that help you feel better. The children held up posters showing the various benefits and ended the presentation by demonstrating forms of exercise. Some children did jumping jacks, others did on the spot jogging while the rest stood on one leg in a yoga pose.
